Speaking during the 27th anniversary of the Special Action Force, Verzosa said, “Let us support the peaceful transition of government to the next political leaders.”
“Below your emblem is the word Tagaligtas.”
“Tagaligtas, which means defender, defender of our people, and of the just recently-concluded democratic process; you have become defenders of our Constitution and defenders of our democracy,” he added.
Verzosa commended members of the elite SAF unit of the PNP, whom he said were at the frontlines in the violence-prone areas of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, and Masbate, among others, at the height of election season.
“This day, we would like to remind you again that aside from congratulating you…we are into the next target of our protection and defense of the different processes of our democracy and as we have always said, if we transform the SAF, we transform the PNP, we have transformed the nation as a whole,” the PNP chief said in his speech.
In a separate interview, Verzosa said the police will be devoting a huge chunk of their budget to improving the operational capabilities of the elite unit.
Among the equipment they will be procuring this year include night-capability equipment, better armaments, more patrol vehicles and sea-borne units.
