Quick Count no Longer Applicable – Poll Body

Thursday, March 4, 2010

Parallel quick count is no longer applicable with the automation of the May 10 polls, an official of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Thursday.

“It’s no longer applicable because nothing will be much faster than our official count,” Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez told reporters in an interview.

He said it is no longer applicable since the Comelec will also be using the same system that television networks used in their quick count before.

Besides, Jimenez said, there is quick count before because of the slow count of the Comelec in the old manual system.

“There’s quick count before because of the slow count of the Comelec. But now it’s going to be a quick count,” he said.

Jimenez said poll automation will also get rid of the fear of trending.

“Our target more or less is to get the results in all areas simultaneously. Since the results will be simultaneous, it will erase the fear of trending,” he said.

“Besides what will be your basis for saying that you are winning in a certain area if the difference in the reports will only be between hours. We are confident that we can eliminate the vote-padding and shaving and ease the problem of trending,” added Jimenez.
